Aviation medicine encompasses the various adverse biological, psychological and physiological responses to the aerospace environment. These include exposure to altitude or low pressure environments, environmental stressors, both psychological and physiological, and the responses to g-forces.
The protection of aircrew and passengers from the potential hazards of the aviation environment, both in terms of the processes involved in air flight and the physiological challenges associated with it forms the core of aviation medical research.
