The Xtreme Everest Oxygen Research Consortium and the Royal Society of Medicine are pleased to announce the inclusion of The Vijay Ahuja Lecture as part of the Kn02wledge 10 programme.

Vijay Ahuja, one of our Caudwell Xtreme Everest investigators, sadly passed away in December 2014. Vijay was a Surgeon Lieutenant Commander in the Royal Navy. Vijay had been a key member of the Cho Oyu 2005 research expedition, and a member of the Summit support climbing team for Caudwell Xtreme Everest in 2007.

Vijay’s colleague and friend, Dr Sundeep Dhillon will be introducing our invited speaker Professor Tom Hornbein from the Departments of Anesthesiology and Physiology and Biophysics, University of Washington School of Medicine, Seattle WA, USA as well as sharing a tribute to Vijay and his work.

Professor Hornbein is best known for his book Everest: The West Ridge which tells the story of his and partner Willi Unsoeld’s attempt to climb Mount Everest via the West Ridge in 1963 as part of the American Everest Expedition. Hornbein also spent 43 years working in Seattle as a teacher, researcher and clinician.

Next year’s Kn02wledge 10 conference takes place on the 23/24 May at the Royal Society of Medicine in London. Early bird tickets are available now via their their website
